My name is Alishé Vorster and I am 32 years old. My life is pretty ordinary, I have been married for 9 years and I am privileged to be blessed with 2 beautiful boys. I have a regular 9-5 job. I grew up in the North West but I’ve created a home for myself in the little town called Kimberley. Just a “small-town girl”, is how I would refer to myself.
I’ve always believed that my main purpose in life was to be a supporting wife to my husband and a loving mother to my kids. I never thought that I could be someone that would make a significant difference to another human being. After all…I am your typical plain-Jane. My greatest moments in life before beginning the USN challenge would probably have to be my wedding day and the birth of my children.
When I initially began this challenge my main goal was to gain a perfect body. This was my sole purpose. However, as I went along I grew stronger physically, mentally and emotionally. This challenge has allowed me to gain complete control over my body. I’ve felt inner-peace which is unexplainable and this experience has allowed me to recognise that the boundaries I’ve pushed have allowed me to obtain more than just a “perfect body”. I’ve gained insight into what’s more important such as making a difference in another persons’ life by simply being an inspiration. My character traits have played a vital role in allowing me to push all of the boundaries that I thought existed. I am an independent, strong-willed woman who is loyal to a goal that I have set for myself. Being committed to this challenge has allowed to me to get this far.
This challenge is not about recognition but rather about being able to encourage somebody to take that first step to changing their entire life with one simple decision. It is encouraging to know that I have impacted peoples’ lives by my mere persistence, dedication and commitment to this challenge. I am extremely introverted and speaking to people doesn’t come naturally to me but I truly believe that actions are far greater than words could ever be. I feel fulfilled knowing that I have been able to motivate and make a difference in someone else’s life. This, in turn, motivates me to reach new heights and set new goals in order to be the best that I can possibly be.
I’ve always believed that my obligation had to be towards my family but since this challenge I’ve realised that it is okay to do something for myself. I feel great knowing that I can still always be there for my family but there is a certain feeling of accomplishment that I’ve obtained from this challenge. I’ve also never felt more energetic which allows me to be the best mom for my kids.
Some days are easier than others and there have been days when I’ve wanted to throw in the towel but I’ve had to learn the concept of self-motivation and I always tell myself, “The body achieves what the mind believes.”
