USN | Sixolile Zamane

My life basically revolves around my family and getting fit while working to grow my business Phumelela Consulting a business that enables me to spend most of my time at home with my son.  Having my son was the best thing that could have ever happened to me, not only because of the blessing he is to us but because of the journey I took after having him. After having my son my body experienced a dramatic change that forced me to reconsider my lifestyle. I started what was meant to be a body makeover journey but ended up giving me so much more, a healthy life and a positive mind set. I have become a better version of myself not only physically but mentally and emotionally too. I am on a journey of self-discovery through healthy eating, exercise and new experiences.

Starting the body makeover journey I was prepared to put in the work, make sure I eat well and exercise as much as I needed to. However the big surprise that no one talks about is the amount of mental work required in order to achieve your goal. I never could have imagined that working on my body would make me reflect on so many things in my life and end up doing so much good for me. I started working on myself and reflecting especially on my social life. I disconnected from everyone who didn’t add value to my life but instead brought negativity and didn’t make me feel good about myself. I started filtering my social media to only positive empowering accounts, people I could relate to, people going through a similar phase I was going through in my life and added value. All I wanted around me was positivity, love and happiness.

Going through this process was the best decision I could have made because it made me see the people and things that are important in my life. I started to reconsider the people that I surround myself with and allow into my life. Removing all the negativity in my life enabled me to concentrate on myself and discover what I actually love doing, and learn a bit about myself.

I would think of myself as an introvert and because of my personality I find comfort in gardening and yoga, I am able to be in my own space which I find quite blissful. I feel comfortable and happy in the company of my family and I spend most of my time with them. My lifestyle change has had a great impact on them too. Weekends now are more active and fun and mostly outdoors.

Being a part of USN has encouraged me to go out and socialise with likeminded people, because people can really surprise you with their kindness. Meeting the USN team for the first time I was taken aback, it was a great experience with such lovely people that just make you feel good and comfortable. This has challenged me to go out and join the gym, because for me going to the gym has always been daunting. I have decided to always encourage myself to get out of my comfort zone and challenge myself every day because the day I started doing something new I found a bit of myself.

I will keep going because with everything that is going on in my life I have found something that is constant and makes me feel good, happy and healthy. Everyday my body surprises me in new ways, so I will keep pushing myself so when I think I have given all I have I can amaze myself. I feel blessed and thankful everyday even though life might not always go my way. Each day I can wake up and make it better than the last because life is what you make of it.
