Wilna Appel is the owner and head coach of CrossFit PBM. She loves the outdoors, in her spare time she is always busy riding Dirt Bikes, hunting, spending time with friends and family and she will never miss any game with a ball.
She started her sporting career at school level. Appel got Provincial colours in Hockey and Tennis at High school between 2000 -2003. She played For TUKS first Hockey team and Played U/21 Gauteng North A Hockey from 2004-2007.
Appel took a gap year going to the United States to see and explore the world in 2007. In 2008 back in South Africa I finished my Personal training course. She worked at a Planet Fitness as a personal trainer for 3 years, in that 3 years she did numerous Ultra Tri Athlons and did the 2 Oceans marathon. In 2009 she got married to her husband and best friend Wynand Appel, they spend 2 years working for the United Nations on an Island called East Timor.
2011 is when Appel opened CrossFit PBM at Waterkloof Hoërskool, this is where her CrossFit career started as an athlete and coach.
In 2012 she finished 1st in Africa for the CrossFit Games Open, qualifying for the Africa Regionals to compete as an Individual and came 2nd at that competition in Cape Town.
In 2013 she decided to be part of a 6 person team, Team CrossFit PBM who Qualified for the African Regionals CrossFit Comp in Johannesburg that came 2nd.
2014 was a big Year for Team CrossFit PBM they Qualified yet again for the African Regionals CrossFit Comp in Johannesburg, that year they came in 1st, that was there biggest achievement and a dream come true. They qualified to represent Africa and CrossFit PBM in the United states at the CrossFit Games against teams from all over the world.
2015 was her last year of competing at the Meridian Regionals in Denmark, representing CrossFit PBM and Africa they came in 14th Place, before she fell pregnant.
2016 was when Appel gave birth to her 1st born son, Luke. She kept on doing CrossFit 4 to 5 times a week up until 36 weeks of her pregnancy. She took this year to concentrate on her CrossFit Box, coaching and raising Luke.
Now she is training as much as she can, doing Local Competitions, giving her attention to her members at the Box, coaching and being a good mom. She will be back as an athlete it just take lots of time, patience to and hard work to catch up again.
